In preparation for Christmas, the Discipleship Commission is asking the congregation to participate in a “Gifts for the Babe” service project in support of Nurses for Newborns.
Nurses for Newborns provides a safety net for families most at-risk in order to prevent infant mortality, child abuse, and neglect by providing in-home nursing visits which promote healthcare, education, and positive parenting skills. This program serves at-risk families who have “medically fragile” babies which includes babies born prematurely, at low birth weight, diagnosed with Down Syndrome of other genetic disorders, or who have been exposed to drugs and/or alcohol prior to birth. The majority of these families are referred by hospital NICU and nursery staff.
The following is a suggested list of items needed by Nurses for Newborns: blankets, wipes, diapers, bath supplies, pacifiers. laundry supplies
Gift bags will be made available on December 2nd for you to fill with supplies. There’s no one way to participate. You can pair up with a friend and fill the gift bag, make it a wonderful family project with your children or grandchildren, or simply participate on your own. Thank you for your support of this service project. All gifts will be received in worship on Sunday, December 23rd and on Christmas Eve.
