Statement of Philosophy...

Glendale Presbyterian Preschool considers all aspects of a child’s development, social, spiritual, emotional, physical, cognitive and creative, in planning a curriculum.

Play is an important avenue for learning as it allows for the whole child to develop.  Through play, the child is able to experience, manipulate, create, experiment, explore, take risks and make choices in an atmosphere of pleasure.  The environment is comprised of carefully chosen child-oriented, informal, self-selected activities based on the needs and interest and intended to help develop the whole child.  Process learning helps to develop confidence and high self-esteem.

The adults display a loving, caring attitude and take joy in being able to participate in the development of the young child.

History...

The Glendale Presbyterian Preschool was founded in 1966.

The school functions under the authority and guidance of the Glendale Presbyterian Church and is subject to the By-Laws of the Session of Glendale Presbyterian Church.  A Board of Directors comprised of church members, staff members and parents manages the school.  The Board of Directors shall be accountable to the Session of Glendale Presbyterian Church.

Purpose...

The Glendale Presbyterian preschool is established to provide a ministry of service to the community by offering a Christian, nurturing, and caring educational environment for the development of preschool children.

The Preschool shall provide the following:

  • Developmentally appropriate activities for the preschool child which will encourage physical, emotional, intellectual and most importantly social growth
  • Opportunities for sharing, cooperating, learning respect for others, gaining independence and security
  • Experiences in problem solving activities individually and in small groups
  • Insights for parents into the growth process of their child and responsiveness to their needs in family life
  • An environment which enables the child to grow in awareness and respond to God’s love
  • A positive Christian atmosphere where the child may have a constructive, happy experience building a broad educational background.
